Attention Deficit Disorder

Attention deficit disorder is described as any of a range of behavioral disorders occurring primarily in children, including such symptoms as poor concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. This in turn makes it problematic for affected individuals to function normally in the community. ADD is something that should not be taken lightly and requires the understanding of others. Let us look into the topic of ADD and how it affects many individuals today.

Parents should not take for granted ADD symptoms their child might be manifesting. A new study has found that attention deficit disorder (ADD) is actually the most common mental health diagnosis among children under 12 who die from suicide.

Nearly a third of the children aged five to 11 who were considered for the study had a known mental health problem. These findings suggest that suicide among children may be more impulsive than it is in older individuals. This is why parents are encouraged to work hand in hand with their children along with their doctors in order to provide them with their needs.

Learning to live with ADD plays a very important role in accepting or getting into the terms of the condition.  It is good to hear that some resources available for students diagnosed with ADD or ADHD which include receiving extended time on a test, getting a quiet room for a test so it’s distraction free, checking out a voice recorder or being eligible for the Disability Resource Center’s note-taking service. This in turn helps an individual cope with their condition in a more effective manner.

A number of organizations have been working hard to spread the much needed awareness about ADD. For instance Annual ADHD Awareness Expo is on its 7th year and this year’s six-day expo holds this theme of inclusiveness. Visitors can tune in to just about any topic, including advice specific to raising a child with ADHD, being a successful woman with ADHD, and holding healthy relationships while coping with ADHD. Through these tailored video lectures anyone can find exactly the advice they need to move forward in managing the disorder.

Although the term ‘Attention Deficit Disorder’ (ADD) had not yet been coined in the 1960s, it is speculated that some sort of attention disorder may have been a likely diagnosis for Dominic during his childhood. He also used to write backwards and suffered from dyslexia.

The eight-time World Memory Champion believes that if he has been able to become an accomplished mnemonist, despite his childhood problems, anyone can do it. All it takes is creative thinking.

Aside from that other famous celebrities such as Tom Hanks credits ADD for Hollywood success. In a new interview, Tom insists his ADD, of which the three main characteristics are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity, has been responsible for him making a name for himself as an actor.

It is good to hear that the community has been working hand in hand together in helping share the much needed information about ADD. Knowledge and information is key when dealing with this condition and fortunately, you will not be finding any shortage of these over the internet.
